Child Protection
Working to see all children cared for, protected, and participating in their communities by strengthening child protection policies, practices, and systems and promoting an environment free from violence.
Highlights
Protecting children in crisis
Since June 2022, World Vision and partners have provided lifesaving, multisectoral aid in Ukraine with support from the USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, ACTED Ukraine, and the Ukraine Response Consortium. Leveraging local partners, we’ve reached 106,000+ children and families with child protection services, psychosocial support, and Child Friendly Spaces.
Combatting human trafficking
World Vision partners with the U.S. Department of State Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons to implement Child Protection Compacts in Mongolia and Romania — multi-year programs implemented in partnership with national governments and civil society actors to sustainably strengthen collective prevention and response to child trafficking.
Proud partnering member
World Vision is an active member of the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, co-leading working groups such as Community Level Child Protection and Working Across Sectors. We are a founding member of the Joining Forces for All Children Alliance and co-lead the Global Framework for Action to Strengthen Child Protection Systems alongside UNICEF and Save the Children.
Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.
However, millions of children are living in catastrophic circumstances and endure abuse, exploitation, exclusion, and discrimination. Violence has far-reaching and serious effects on the well-being of children. Research shows that adverse experiences in childhood can cause long-term negative outcomes in adulthood. In contrast, a safe and caring environment provides children the opportunity to thrive, even in difficult circumstances.
World Vision adopts an integrated and holistic transformational development approach to programming for the most vulnerable children, rooted in our desire for the wholeness of life for children, their families, and their communities.
World Vision seeks to strengthen local and national child protection systems — partnering with government, civil society, and community stakeholders so that they are equipped, coordinated, and working together to create a protective environment that cares for and supports all children.
In humanitarian situations, World Vision upholds an integrated approach to prevent and respond to abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence against children.
As formal and informal structures that offer protection to children are weakened or destroyed, World Vision’s humanitarian approach to protecting children includes activities implemented by child protection actors with an aim to improve the safety and wellbeing of children affected by any crisis and conflicts. All humanitarian actors play an important role to ensure their interventions contribute to the protection of children and mitigate risks in programs.
Child Protection Subsectors
World Vision utilizes an adaptive, system-strengthening approach for child protection at the community and national levels. Using evidence-based practices aligned with the INSPIRE framework for ending violence against children and in adherence to the Child Protection Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Action, we are reaching the most vulnerable populations, especially in fragile and conflict areas.
