Trends and determinants of tuberculosis treatment outcomes among patients at Hargeisa tuberculosis hospital, Somaliland

This study analyzes six years of tuberculosis (TB) treatment data from Hargeisa TB Hospital in Somaliland, examining trends and factors associated with treatment outcomes between 2019 and 2024. Findings show that treatment success rates consistently met or exceeded the World Health Organization target of 85%, demonstrating strong program performance. However, older adults and patients co-infected with HIV were significantly less likely to achieve successful treatment outcomes. The research highlights the importance of strengthening TB/HIV service integration and providing targeted clinical and adherence support for older patients to further improve treatment success. Data for the study were drawn from the TB program implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Development, Hargeisa, Somaliland, Somalia and the National TB Program and supported by the Global Fund.
