In 2016/2017, Mozambique launched its first countrywide universal coverage campaign (UCC) for long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) to combat malaria. The campaign used a collaborative approach involving the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), health authorities, community members, and civil society partners. A new household registration strategy was implemented, and LLINs were distributed to 97% of registered needs, covering 95% of households and reaching 85% of the population. The successful planning and coordination resulted in increased access to LLINs, which is expected to reduce malaria cases and support the country’s malaria control goals as outlined in the 2016–2030 Global Technical Strategy for Malaria.
