Studies indicate that poverty in Bangladesh is exacerbated by climate-related shocks, health issues, and limited access to agricultural markets, with the COVID-19 pandemic adding to these challenges. This research investigates the potential of integrating multi-sectoral approaches, such as Ultra Poor Graduation (UPG) programming, inclusive Market Systems Development (iMSD), climate-related Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) interventions, to strengthen resilience and prevent re-entry into poverty.

Conducted in southwest Bangladesh through the Nobo Jatra Project, the study used a mixed-methods approach to compare resilience and wellbeing indicators among participants exposed to various combinations of interventions. The findings reveal that UPG with iMSD enhances absorptive and adaptive capacities, helping to address chronic poverty. Strengthening resilience against disaster and health shocks prevents households from falling deeper into poverty. Additionally, transformative actions like women’s empowerment, market access, and participation in savings groups and social networks improve long-term poverty escapes for women.
