The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) leads the SPIR II learning agenda, conducting studies to better understand challenges related to secondary school enrollment in rural communities, particularly for youth in the Amhara and Oromia regions. The study focuses on obstacles to enrollment, gender disparities, the quality of education, and potential interventions to encourage higher secondary school enrollment. Findings show a significant drop in enrollment rates between primary and secondary school, with a notable gender gap in some regions. The investigation aims to identify barriers to enrollment, especially for girls, and to explore interventions that could improve educational decisions and outcomes for rural youth.
