This research examines how teachers, parents, community leaders, and other local actors collaborate with the formal education system to run and adapt reading camps in Ghana, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Focused on early-grade students in vulnerable communities, the study identifies key factors for successful, gender-responsive, and inclusive literacy programming — such as leveraging existing systems, aligning with national curricula, and creating safe, supportive spaces for learning. Findings from World Vision’s Unlock Literacy model offer valuable insights for scaling and sustaining community-led approaches that improve children’s reading fluency.
