World Vision is committed to making education possible for all children. Critical to advancing inclusive and quality education is collaborating with local actors and partners to define their own vision for success, strengthening their ability to be effective and relevant actors within their communities and contexts, and elevating local ownership in sustaining development—principles outlined in USAID’s Local Capacity Strengthening (LCS) Policy.
During this webinar in honor of International Literacy Day, we will take a closer look at ways local capacity strengthening contributes to inclusive literacy, including:
- Keynote Donor Perspectives: Melissa Chipili, Deputy Director-Technical at USAID’s Center for Education, will share why local capacity strengthening of education systems is critical for quality education and provide an overview of USAID’s recently released education guidance used to implement its local capacity strengthening policy.
- Implementer Perspectives: Nicholas Hoekstra, Sr. Program Manager at Inclusive Development Partners; Dez Byamukama, Chief of Party, USAID Homes & Communities Project at World Vision; and Alfonso Herrera, Deputy Chief of Party, FHI 360’s USAID-funded Educational Innovation Project at FUSALMO will present examples of how strengthened programs and community systems according to LCS principles resulted in improved literacy for people with disabilities and girls.
- Guided Discussion: Participants will engage with peers in breakout sessions to discuss their organization’s best practices, lessons learned, and challenges with local capacity system strengthening.
Together, we can make reading possible for all children.
